Topeka has demonstrated that even in these economically challenging times,
students are studying and learning. in fact, we have gained a 29 point increase over 2010 API scores
to a very distinguished API score of  895 for 2011.
Principal Dixon attributes this growth to a continued focus on the importance of attendance, parent participation,
retention of dedicated and experienced teachers and an open door policy allowing both parents
and the local community to express concerns, voice praises and make general comments. We thank all that work so hard to make
Topeka TIGERRIFFIC!

Meet Ms. DIxon

We are thrilled to introduce a new column highlighting some of the people who make Topeka truly Tigerriffic! Our first spotlight is on our enthusiastic, energetic and accomplished principal, Mrs. Temika Dixon. When not in meetings with parents, teachers and conducting important LAUSD business, Mrs. Dixon can often be seen right in front of our school greeting students and parents, offering words of encouragement and ensuring that the valet line runs smoothly and safely. Mrs. Dixon has 15 years of experience with the LAUSD, having worked previously with schools in some of the best areas of the city and schools faced by hardships in some of the more economically challenged areas. A graduate of UCLA, Mrs. Dixon exhibits passion for education and a positive outlook that is magnetic for adults and children alike. She reminds us all to hold ourselves to the highest standards every time we enter the school grounds and hear her welcoming
"GOOD MORNING - HAVE A GREAT DAY!"

More About Topeka.jpg

An Exciting Place to Learn and Grow

Topeka Drive Elementary School, built in 1964, is one of the premier elementary

schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Topeka Drive is one of the few schools in the area offering a School for Advanced Studies (SAS), is the only school offering a Korean Dual Language Program and is one of the few offering a Visually Impaired (VI) program. The staff and employees of Topeka envision an environment that provides all students with essential life tools needed to become productive, responsible citizens. Students, family and community work together to provide necessary resources and support each other to produce a positive educational environment essential for learning. Topeka - where learning is Tigerriffic!

Got weeds and debris?

Unfortunately Topeka Drive does - but you can help us remedy that issue. In April, 2012 we will be sprucing up our campus, getting rid of the weeds and clearing away trash and we desperately need your help. Please plan on volunteering with your children, extended family and community to clean up our school - we will provide dates in the near future but expect to coordinate our activities around Earth Day 2012. This will be a wonderful opportunity to put in some good old fashioned work with classmates, teachers, staff and parent volunteers and we promise to have some fun while we are at it! We thank you for helping to make our school Tigerrriffic!!! Please contact Amanda at amandavalk@aol.com to register to volunteer for this important Topeka event - our campus and our children
thank you!

Getting to School Safely!

If you are new to Topeka,
you've probably seen our valet service located on Labrador and on Superior Streets and wondered how it works. We offer the opportunity to drop off your cherished little one(s) without having to leave your car right at our school gates on the kindergarten side of the school (Labrador) and the elementary side of the school (Superior).
We want to remind everyone that this is a service manned by safety minded parents like you and we operate entirely through your volunteer efforts from 7:30am - 8:00am every day. Please take the time to volunteer with us in the morning - we promise you will make a difference, have a significant positive impact on both students arriving to school and parents dropping their children off and, quite honestly, we can't do this without you! Please contact Heather Cioffi at heathercioffi@gmail.com today to schedule some time to volunteer - the children need you! Remember, we operate in a quiet neighborhood community, please obey stop signs, pay careful attention to crosswalks and do not use your horn. Many of our neighbors tolerate the extra traffic, crowds and trash that our school brings and we want to respect their properties as well as keep the noise at a minimum. Parents are reminded to always use the crosswalk and to not jaywalk (or dart out in the street) in front of parked cars - each year we experience accidents in front of the school and we want to ensure that our students and parents are safe at all times.
